Fr. Deogratias Rwezaura, SJ, Rector of Hekima Jesuit Community affirmed that, “the sporting activities are not aimed at gaining victories but at fostering our bonds of friendship and companionship. Those words were said at the launch of the Hekima Jesuit Community during her yearly Annual Sports Day recently (21st October). Early in the morning, in his homily, for the Eucharistic celebration to offer the days’ activities to the Lord, Deacon Grant Tungay, SJ., reminded to the Jesuits that “if we are not enough without medals (gold), we wouldn’t be enough with them.”
In a very conducive environment of the Don Bosco sports complex (Nairobi Kenya) and a very beautiful weather, the activities took-off at about 9a.m (local time) with a word of prayers by Deacon Tungay, SJ., and then the opening of the games by the Rector. The activities started with athletics (100m, 200m, 400m – relay and then the 2km marathon), then followed with the qualification and final matches for football that left Huduam/Ushirika team the winner. There after were finals for Basket ball and volley ball leaving respectively Shaihidi/Kwetu-Kwenu and Pamoja/Maisha teams winners.

The day was crowned with the award of prices, first to those who distinguished themselves in athletics, then to Shaihidi/Kwetu-Kwenu team which was the overall winner of the day. In his concluding remark, the Rector expressed gratitude to all for active participation and especially to the organizing committee for their selfless efforts that made the day a great success. The community then departed the Don Bosco premises at about 3:45 p.m just after the closing prayer.
