By Honore Onana Olah, SJ

From 27th December, 2017 to 06th January, 2018 nine young Italians from MEG (Movimento Eucaristico Giovanile: Italian version of EYM) decided to follow Jesus closer by visiting their friends of EYM (Eucharistic Youth Movement) based in Kenya.

Under the supervision of Fr. Andrea Picciau, SJ, responsible of EYM Italia and Sr. Rose Macharia, RSM, responsible of EYM Kenya, they were staying at Kangemi, a slum visited by Pope Francis during his Apostolic Journey in Kenya.

Eucharistic Youth Movement (EYM) is the youth branch of the Apostleship of Prayer which started in 1844 in southern France. EYM is also known as the present version of the old Eucharistic Crusade, founded in 1914.

According to Fr. Claudio Barriga, SJ, the former International Director of Apostleship of Prayer, “with a change of name and a deep renewal in 1962, in France, the EYM today offers dynamic Christian formation to over a million children and young people in 50 countries, from ages 5 to 25”.
