Fr. Agbonkhianmeghe Emmanuel Orobator, SJ, President of the JCAM (Jesuit Conference of Africa and Madagascar) conducted the traditional canonical visit from 18th to 24th November 2018 in Hekima Jesuit Community.
During his meeting with the scholastic, Fr. Orobator, SJ, Particularly emphasized the universal apostolic preferences of the Society of Jesus. “The Society, under the leadership of Fr. Arturo Sosa, Superior General, he said, has begun a discernment on universal apostolic preferences for the years to come”. He also thanked the Companions of the community for their active participation in this process.
Fr. Orobator, SJ, also reminded and invited the Jesuits to continue working for the current five (5) universal apostolic preferences in the Society. “These universal apostolic preferences, he pointed out, were developed in 2003 and are five (Africa – China – Refugees – Intellectual Apostolate – Common Houses)”.
In presenting the statistics of the Universal Society on the future, the President of JCAM did not fail to invite the Jesuits studying at Hekima to continue to project on the future that “is radiant”. He also invited them to “reflect about their role in the Society of Jesus by the year 2050”.
It should be remembered that it was in a letter published on January 1, 2003 that Fr. Peter-Hans Kolvenbach, former Superior General, announced the five universal apostolic preferences. These five universal apostolic preferences will once again be confirmed with the Decree III during the 35th General Congregation.
Finally, let us note that this canonical visit of Fr. Emmanuel Orobator, SJ, came after the murder of Fr. Victor-Luke Odhiambo, SJ in South Sudan.
